1824<1C> MS63 Brown PCGS. N-2, R.2. The reverse die is rotated about 30 degrees counterclockwise. Although not perfectly centered, the dentilation is fully visible on both sides, having blurred only slightly on the obverse. There is no evidence of the obverse die crack that sometimes appears through star 9. The N-2 die combination is the most common of this year, and the logical choice for date collectors seeking a higher grade example. There are actually as many as 40 Mint State examples known, along with numerous AU coins. Nearly all of these coins have been sequestered into date and variety sets, and the opportunity to acquire such a coin seldom occurs. The central obverse and reverse details are quite sharply struck, although the peripheral design, including the obverse stars, is rather weak. This cent has lovely medium brown color with splashes of darker steel toning on the obverse and hints of olive on the reverse.
