<B>1824/1 $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS.</B></I> Breen-6127, BD-1, R.5. The BD-1 is the only known variety for the year. The left edge of the 1 is over the left edge of a dentil, and the 8 is centered over a dentil. The numerator and denominator in the fraction are distant from each other and from the integer. Although this issue is recorded as an overdate, that feature fades with time and is not much visible on the present example. An unused 1821 obverse die was used in 1824, since there were no quarter eagle coinages in the intervening two years. This piece offers still-lustrous lemon-yellow surfaces, with just a touch of highpoint wear and light field chatter. A bit of strike softness shows on the left (facing) wing of the eagle.
