1823/2 25C VF35 ANACS.
1823/2 25C VF35 ANACS. B-1, R.6. Only a single die pairing is known of this very rare issue. Mint records indicate that 117,800 pieces were struck of this year, but it is one of the two rarest dates in the entire Quarter series. It is generally thought that the vast portion of this issue was melted and the bullion then converted into other denominations. Only the most advanced collections contain an example of the 1823 Quarter, and over the past 10 years Heritage has sold just one other example, that being a repaired specimen in our 2002 ANA which realized nearly $14,000. This considerably more desirable representative displays balanced wear in addition to pleasing gunmetal and pearl-gray surfaces. A few ancient marks are found under the toning on the obverse, including an easily missed scratch under Liberty's eye. Quarter collectors in the know will have a keen interest in this coin, one of the most formidable rarities of the denomination. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
