1823<1C> Restrike. MS64 Red and Brown NGC. MS63 EAC. The popular and intriguing 1823 Restrike cents in copper were produced in the early 1860s, by an unknown party, although in 1871, Edward Cogan claimed that he actually struck the coins, for the owner of the dies. This is an early die state and may be one of the first pieces stuck by Cogan, before additional die cracks developed. The obverse rim break is complete, and a crack extends from this cud between stars 4 and 5, across the bust, and down to star 12. The reverse has a light crack through D to the wreath and disappearing in the field above ONE. This is a lovely example with considerable bright orange luster, accented by olive and pale blue color.
Ex: George Ramont. Envelope Included.
