1822<50C> MS61 NGC. O-106, R.3. Some researchers have conjectured that this variety is an overdate, like the O-101 and O-102. Overton concludes that there is insufficient evidence to call it an overdate, but the last 2 in the date is noticeably thicker, and an obvious dot lies within. The 18 is much higher than the 22. Line two of stripe five and line one of stripe six extend upward into the crossbars to aid the reverse attribution. This lovely coin is fully Mint State and somewhat prooflike, with attractive greenish-gray toning with glints of aqua and indigo in the protected areas. Abundant mint luster radiates from underneath the toning. The strike is bold, with all star centrils detailed, sculpted hair details on Liberty, and fully outlined feathers on the eagle. A bit of weakness is present on the eagle's claws and the highest lock of hair behind the liberty band. There is a small, as-made planchet flaw near TY in LIBERTY. Examination with a glass shows a couple of scrapes on Liberty's cheek and neck. Despite these trivial imperfections, this coin remains highly desirable, attractive, and unusually well preserved. Envelope Included.
