1822<1C> N-13, R.5. AU58 NGC. XF40 EAC. This is the finest known example of the variety, and an attractive one at that. It is the Wright plate coin for the variety, and also the Noyes plate coin. It is lightly cracked on the obverse from the upper border through star 7 and on to BE of LIBERTY. This die variety was discovered by Willard C. Blaisdell in 1947, and remains elusive today. According to John Wright, this example, which remains finest known, was the third example of the variety to be located. Today, perhaps 50 or so examples survive, although most are in low grades. In fact, after this single XF example, the Condition Census drops off sharply, with the sixth best grading just Fine 15.
Ex: Norman Schultz; Garry Fitzgerald (11/13/1968). Envelope Included.
