1821 Infantry Officers Eagle Head Sword.
Sword has the features of the swords produced under the regulations of 1821.The side of the ricasso bears the proof mark of a Crowned Kings head being the Company logo of GEBRUEDER WEYERSBERG of SOLINGEN in Germany. The wide fullered straight blade measures 29 1/4 inches and has niter blue panels on the upper 8 1/2 inches of the length on each side with gilt-etched designs including floral sprays and military trophies. The hilt is gilded brass with floral and feather design knuckle guard with the top clutched in the eagles beak, the grips are composed of two plaques of ivory carved with diagonal grooves to hold the wire winding, there is a ferrule at the base decorated with embossed design of leaves. Octagonal guard with the American eagle with shield in relief. American shield on the straight quillon. Brass scabbard with engraved floral and Federal eagle motifs, two hanger rings and a clam shaped frog stud. Sword is in very good condition, wire and grips intact, no nicks to the blade, complete. Scabbard is overall very good with slight "door dent" and some minor dent on the lower end. Reference to this sword is found on pages 76, 77 of the American Sword 1775-1945 by Peterson.
