1820's Jack Randall Signed Boxing Book PSA/DNA
1820's Jack Randall Signed Boxing Book. Easily the earliest sports autograph featured in this Signature auction is a remarkably strong signature from British boxing Champion Jack Randall, a 2005 inductee to the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Before severe alcoholism cut his life short at age thirty-four in 1828, Randall had been one of the most dominating pugilists in the sport, often credited as the inventor of the one-two punch. His autograph appears at the start of a chapter devoted to him in this early 1820's boxing volume entitled "The Fancy," and rates an unbelievable 9/10 after more than eighteen decades since its application to the page. The book has been rebound and shows some expected wear, with the occasional missing page (photocopies of missing pages are included), but it is still in fine condition for its advanced age. Our records indicate that no copies of this book have sold in the United States in the past twenty years, but one did sell in England for the equivalent of about five hundred dollars several years ago. While it should surprise few that there are no known exemplars of Randall's autograph, our experts have confirmed that the signature is vintage to the period, and we must assume that sports autograph forgery was not a booming criminal enterprise in the early nineteenth century. Those collecting boxing Hall of Famers are all but assured that this will be their only chance to own Randall's autograph. LOA from PSA/DNA.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 22.5% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. This lot is being auctioned in conjunction with a live floor auction by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers. All final auction and invoice information will be supplied by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers, and all other information should be considered preliminary.
