</font></strong>The Quintessential two part American possibly Baltimore, Maryland or Virginia made Federal period plantation desk in excellent original condition including original brass hardware. This fine piece of furniture dates from around 1820 and was found in Baltimore County. It has it's original rich finish and patina and has never been refinished. The two upper paneled faux Cuban crotched flamed Mahogany doors with working lock and key pulls down to make a slant writing surface with it's original green felt. Revealing the inside fitted with compartments, pigeon holes and document compartments each with a scalloped design, The compartments are resting on three Cuban crotched flamed Mahogany drawers with there original pressed brass NeoClassical drawer pulls. True plantation desk almost always have a top part that locks and comes off and can be taken in a carriage with important documents as this one does. The top cabinet sits on a 4 drawer base on beautifully turned Sheraton legs

The craftsmanship is excellent and was made by a trained city Cabinetmaker. This beautiful piece of furniture is constructed of Cuban crotched flamed Mahogany veneer that is cut in book matched & solid Mahogany on 3 sides with Southern yellow pine and the secondary wood on the back and drawer backs . This desk is handmade with handcut dovetails on all the drawers and the casework with very fine dovetailing. This piece measures 43" wide, 22" deep and stands 59.5" high. My photo's do not do this piece justice! ...
