1820<$5> Curl 2, Large Letters MS63 PCGS. Breen-6477, B. 3-C, Miller-134, R.4. Misattributed by PCGS as the Small Letters variety, although correctly identified in the Bass catalog. The second T in STATES being situated lower than the following E clearly identifies this piece as a Large Letters. The strike is typically bold save for the tips of the eagle's claws and the luster is especially vibrant. A slender vertical facial mark precludes a Choice rating. The 1820 is a median rarity in the Capped Head Left, Large Diameter, series of Half Eagles, being scarcer than the 1813, 1814/3, or 1818 and of course far less scarce than some of the legendary rarities in the series. Population data was omitted for this item since a large percentage of 1820 half eagles were submitted when only one PCGS number was used for the date.
Ex: Harry W.
