181B: A Perfect Colima Cantero of Chayote Fruit
West Mexico, ca. 200 BC – 250 AD. Colima, Camala style, pottery vessel depicting a bowl holding Chayote fruit. (See page 124 Townsend Ancient West Mexico” for a nearly exact example). Chayote is much like a summer squash, and was an important food source of the ancient Colima people. Two of the fruits have painted black and red circles, the other two are left buff colored. The surface is finely stone polished, Manganese and dendrite deposits present. Dimensions: Height: 6"H, Diameter: 10-1/2"
