1816 Book of Receipts from the United States Army Ordnance (Arsenal) Department (Located near Pikesville, Maryland and close to Baltimore), Extremely Fine.
This rare official U.S. Receipt Log Book is comprised of 57 pages of Partially-Printed Receipts, having Two (2) Printed Receipts on each page which measures 12.5” x 7.75”. There are Two and One Half pages of completed (filled-in) Receipts for various official reasons. The remainder of the receipt pages are Partially-Printed but are not completed. Most of the receipts are for labor or sundry items, with one payment of $2.00 being for “... detecting a man in attempting to sell fraudulently, Public property and delivering the same at the U.S. Arsenal near Baltimore.” Pages are disbound having some of the original binding still attached along the left edge. All of the receipts are in excellent clean crisp condition, except for the two on the final page which are somewhat soiled on the exposed side. The Pikesville Arsenal was a 19th-century United States Army fortification near Pikesville, Maryland, under control of the Army Ordnance Department.
