<B>1815 25C MS65 NGC.</B></I> Ex: Ashland City Collection. B-1, the only known dies, R.1. Die State I. This is the premier issue in the Capped Bust quarter series. While it is popular for first-year type purposes, the 1815 is probably more desirable as a low mintage, conditionally challenging date. A mere 89,235 pieces were produced from a single obverse and reverse die marriage. While circulated and lower Mint State survivors are available with more or less frequency, Gems are undeniably rare with just 10 MS65 examples known to NGC and PCGS. The present example is an early die state with no clash marks, and reverse repunching on the base of the second T in STATES. The A in STATES is also repunched. This is an uncommonly well struck representative of the design with fully denticulated borders and crisp definition over virtually all features. Both sides present as untoned with a lustrous, frosty-white sheen. There is not a single noteworthy abrasion, but a tiny planchet void in the obverse field before Liberty's nose is a worthwhile pedigree marker.
