1815<25C> MS65 NGC. B-1, the only known dies, R.1. Die State II. Following a delivery of 220,643 pieces in 1807, the Philadelphia Mint idled its quarter dollar presses in favor of the half dollar denomination. Revived in 1815, John Reich's Capped Bust design had substituted Robert Scot's Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle motif of 1804-1807. Only 89,235 quarters were produced in 1815, and this is only the fifth time in the last 13 years that we have offered a Gem specimen of this issue. The present specimen is richly toned in golden-purple patina with softer cobalt-blue and apricot undertones. The coin is perfectly centered with uncommonly crisp striking detail, and the surfaces are distraction-free with a thick, frosty texture. A coin for the advanced specialist or Gem first-year type collector. Census: 7 in 65, 6 finer (4/06).
