1815<25C> MS63 PCGS. B-1, R.1. The only die marriage for the issue. Although John Reich's Capped Bust design had been used on Half Dollars and Half Eagles since 1807, it was not coined on Quarters until 1815. The reason for this is that no Quarters were struck between 1808 and 1817 aside from the 1815, since depositors of silver bullion at the Mint preferred the more convenient Half Dollar. Although the 1815 is obtainable in worn grades, Uncirculated pieces are both scarce and desirable. This well struck example has shimmering luster and dusky tan-gold and dove-gray colors. A few faint slide marks beneath the left scroll end are fully appropriate for the grade. Faint clashmarks (as made) confirm a middle die state. Population: 14 in 63, 18 finer (11/05).
