1815<25C> "E" Counterstamp B-1, R.6--Bent--NCS. AU Details. Die State I. Wide Date; AT repunched. The "E" counterstamp shows above Liberty's head. A certain number of 1825 quarters also exist with the E counterstamp, and both dates also exist with an "L" counterstamped above the head. Many hypotheses have been presented to explain these E and L counterstamped coins, however, none to date have been proven. Most recently, a plausible suggested links these coins to the Economite Hoard of silver coinage uncovered in western Pennsylvania. Given that many of these turned up in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio (Economy, PA is northwest of Pittsburgh and southeast of Youngstown, Ohio), this suggestion is as good as any yet proposed. Pleasing mauve-gray surfaces with cobalt-blue accents. Minor obverse scratches, and slight deformation in the area around C. of 25 C. from the obverse counterstamp.
Ex: Julian Leidman (4/1986). Envelope Included.
