1815/2 50C XF40 PCGS. O-101, R.2. Steel gray with a hint of light gold near the stars. Traces of luster in the protected areas can be found when the coin is examined under a light. Minor clashmarks are found on the reverse as usual. Moderate surface hairlines and the coin is slightly reflective. There are some thin dull scratches on the reverse, surrounding the eagle, with a couple on the shield, and there is a pin prick nick on Liberty's neck. One of the most desirable dates in the Capped Bust half series, which has the tiny mintage of 47,150 pieces. The entire mintage of 1815 half dollars was delivered on January 10, 1816, just hours before the Philadelphia Mint suffered a fire which virtually halted gold and silver coinage until late 1817.
