1814 S-295 R1 Plain 4 G5
Glossy medium brown with a splash of darker chocolate at the bottom of the reverse. The planchet is mostly smooth but there is some minor roughness and specks of verdigris at the bottom of the reverse. This cent was struck two times. The first strike was normal but the cent failed to eject from the press and was struck a second time. The second strike was against the obverse die (offset about a millimeter to the left) on the obverse and against a new blank planchet on the reverse. Clear doubling shows on most of the stars and the reverse displays the swelling associated with having been struck against a blank planchet. Struck from the later state of the dies with crumbling on the throat and neck. A neat mint error.
