1814-Dated War of 1812 Period, Document for Direct Tax Within The United States
War of 1812
War of 1812 Issued “Direct Tax Within The United States”
October 4th, 1814-Dated War of 1812 Period, Partially-Printed Document Signed, “Jedediah Goodwin Jr.” Deputy Collector, State of Massachusetts, Congressional Act Tax Bill, Choice Very Fine.

Docket on the blank reverse reads, “Direct Tax” bill for David Preble dated 1813 (Berwick, Maine), “under the Act of Congress passed the 2nd August 1813, to lay and collect a direct tax within the United States.” This boldly printed, well centered form is completed in deep brown upon very clean, laid period paper. A very rare Direct Tax form towards paying expenses during the War of 1812 and the very first of this early American war-date tax form we have seen.
