This very rare Partly-Printed Lottery Form, dated and issued in 1814, Unlisted type. Text reads, in part: “PURCHASER PROMISES TO PAY $200 FOR A DEED FOR ANY LOT IN COLUMBIA EXTENDED THAT IS DRAWN AGAINST THIS CERTIFICATE NO. 18. PAYABLE TO DANIEL MUSSER & RUDOLPH HERR THEIR HEIRS OR ASSIGNS.”

It is signed below by “Christian Groff” and witnessed by “Jos.(eph) S. Eshleman and Endoresed “Christian Groff” on the blank reverse, likely as being the winner. This Lottery for a lot shows that Columbia, PA. was extended in size in 1814, with such lots of land being sold off in a Lottery format. A concept which continues in use even today. The first we have seen. Exceedingly Rare, this being the first we have seen.
