1814 50C MS66 NGC. O-103, R.1. Only four varieties are known of this date, plus several die states. This seems somewhat peculiar since more than a million halves were struck, stretching die life to the max. This particular reverse die was apparently heavily damaged in the earliest state and it remained in production, striking thousands of coins. The nature of the damage is a heavy defect die ridge across the eagle's left (facing) wing. Sharply struck throughout, the mint luster is bright with a soft, frosted texture. Each side is lightly toned with ever-deepening russet-rose and blue color around the margins. Undoubtedly one of the finest known of this interesting variety.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
