1814/3 $5 MS63 NGC. B. 1-A, Breen-6468, Bass-3127, BD-1, High R.4. All known examples of the 1814 half eagle are from this single die pair that features an overdated obverse die. The reverse die was used for three different varieties spanning three years. Its first use was in 1813 and its final use was for the extremely rare 1815 half eagle. This 1814/3 half eagle is an important and scarce issue, although it is not the rarity once believed. Current estimates suggest between 80 and 100 pieces exist, including several Mint State examples. This example has a clear overdate feature with all of the other design features sharp. The surfaces have frosty luster and brilliant yellow-gold color. A few tiny abrasions on each side are consistent with the grade. The obverse has a faint crack at the base of the date and the reverse has a light crack through MER and another at the base of the denomination.
From The Freedom Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
