1814<1C> Plain 4 MS65 Brown PCGS. S-295, R.1. Die State XI, the so-called "Beard variety," named for the mint-made die break along Liberty's chin. Steel-blue and medium brown toning blends seamlessly throughout this lustrous and boldly struck Gem. A formidable conditional rarity at the MS65 level. Essentially pristine save for a faint pinscratch on the die break near the chin. One of only two die marriages for this collectible date. The final Sheldon variety. No Cents were struck dated 1815, and the Matron Head replaced the Classic Head in 1816. Certified in an older generation holder.
From The Joshua and Ally Walsh Collection of United States Cents.
