1814 1C Crosslet 4 MS63 Brown NGC. S-294, B-1, R.1. This variety is attributed by the crosslet 4 in the date; the S-295 variety has a large plain 4. Walter Breen, in his Encyclopedia of Early United States Cents, 1793-1814, cites Robert Julian's research in saying: " ... Chief Coiner Adam Eckfeldt delivered 357,830 cents to Mint Treasurer Benjamin Rush on October 27, exhausting the Mint's supply of cent blanks." Breen goes on to say: "Unsurprisingly, gem uncirculated 1814s are unobtainable, though both varieties of this date are plentiful in all lower grades."
This Brown Select example displays highly attractive glossy medium brown surfaces that exhibit sharply struck design elements. Most of the dentilation shows on both sides, and is for the most part quite bold. Each face is devoid of significant contact marks, spots, or corrosion. In other words, a truly outstanding specimen. Census: 16 in 63 Brown, 11 finer (6/07). EAC 55.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
