<B><I>Elegy on the Death of Miss Sally Hamilton</B></I></B></I><B> Manuscript Document.</B></I> Three pages, 7.75” x 12”, circa 1813, paper uniformly toned with age, several fold creases, chipped and bent at the edges, and the document has separated at the center lateral fold necessitating professional restoration. This rather maudlin poem chronicles the murder of Sally Hammilton sic , who was killed by ruffians on August 26, 1813 near the city of Athens, Greens County, New York. “<I>It was in the eve in the shade of the night/ O there she was taken oh sorrowful sight/ She was dragged to the river of Hudsons fine shore/ And there she was ravished and left in her gore…</B></I>”, etc. The poem was later published as a broadside.
