1813-Dated War of 1812 Powder Horn with Heraldic Eagle
1813-Dated War of 1812 Period, Hand-Engraved Decorative Powder Horn, With American Heraldic Eagle and Crossed Sabres, Extremely Fine.
An impressive, well executed 1813-Dated Hand-Engraved Powder Horn, likely sized for a pistol, measuring about 8” long x 2” with a flat plug attached by period iron pins at the wide cap end. This Horn is decorated with an excellent large American Federal-style Shield, within it is a beautifully engraved Heraldic Eagle with Crossed Sabers displayed above. A further decorative design is a fine Crosshatch pattern border at base, and a narrow crosshatch pattern stripe running from base to tip. There is light wear and a couple of trivial non-distracting chips, no wooden plug. Two small extended pieces of the horn allow for a thin strap at the large end, while the plug end is decorated with several fine engraved bands. Overall, a truly patriotic decorative and well executed Powder Horn that has excellent eye appeal and detail for collector display.
