1813 50C AU58 NGC. O-107, R.4. This rare Capped Bust h 1813[50C] AU58 NGC.
1813<50C> AU58 NGC. O-107, R.1. This is the much less common die state of this Overton variety, which lacks several of the heavy die breaks that doomed this die pairing. The coin is a lustrous dove-gray, with copper hints at the obverse periphery and azure around the reverse periphery. The die breaks that are diagnostic of O-107 are present, of course, including one that proceeds from the 1 in the date and through the bust, joining all stars on the left. However, this specimen lacks the O-107a break on the obverse that extends from the lower curl upward through the clasp, nor does it possess the new crack of between 1 and 8 in the date that proceeds toward the drapery. On the reverse, this piece omits the die lump at the milling between TE, nor does it have the O-107a new crack that extends from the eagle's left wing, crosses the neck, and merges with the scroll. Numerous die clash marks are prominent, as always. The strike is generous, with all star centrils detailed and only light weakness noted on the eagle's left wing and right claw. Only the tiniest hint of rub separates this gorgeous coin from full Mint State.
Ex: Wiley (3/2/1989). Envelope Included.
