1813 $5 MS64 PCGS. B. 1-A, Miller-119, R.3. This is about the highest quality that one can reasonably expect to acquire for a Half Eagle of this elusive type. A carefully preserved first-year representative, both sides are tinged in orange-copper shadings. The luster is sufficiently vibrant for the near-Gem level of preservation, both sides displaying a pleasing satin finish. Both sides are sharply struck in most areas, and the often-seen incompleteness of detail around the peripheries is largely confined to just two areas: from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock on the obverse and 9 o'clock to 12 o'clock on the reverse. A few rollermarks (as produced) are noted on Liberty's cheek, but singularly bothersome abrasions are not seen. We anticipate that this coin will have little difficulty finding its way into a high grade type set of classic U.S. gold. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
