1813 $5 MS63 PCGS. B. 1-A, Miller-119, R.3. Among Robert Scot's Capped Head Left design, the 1813 is the most frequently encountered date. High grade examples are occasionally available and are the only date in the series that can be found with any regularity in Mint State for this very rare type. This piece is uncommonly well struck with complete definition on Liberty's hair, the peripheral stars, and even the eagle's plumage (not usually an area found fully struck on this date). A few light abrasions account for the grade. The mint luster is softly frosted and the surfaces have an unusual fine-grain granularity. From the Ashland City Collection.
