1813 $5 MS62 PCGS. BD-1, R.2. The Capped Head Left Half Eagle is one of the most challenging gold types. Although struck for a generation, between 1813 and 1834, survivors are rare for most dates. This is because the American gold-silver ratio undervalued gold. Thus, mintages were limited, and mostly intended for export overseas, where the pieces were valued solely for their bullion content. This was reclaimed when the pieces were melted. Unlike many dates of the type, the 1813 is available in Mint State, but type demand is formidable, especially for examples as pleasing as the present coin. Lustrous and boldly struck with clean fields and only a couple of unimportant obverse marks. Certified in an older generation green label holder.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
