1813<$5> MS61 NGC. B. 1-A, Miller-119, R.3. The Capped Head Left type is one of the most difficult gold types to acquire. Among Half Eagles, only the Bust Right, Small Eagle has greater rarity. The Capped Head Left series also contains four of the most significant rarities in American numismatics, the 1822, the 1825/4, the 1815, and the 1832 Curl Base 2. Compared to these, the 1813 is plentiful, but Mint State survivors are under great demand from advanced type set collectors. This apricot-gold example is boldly struck and has no relevant abrasions. Adjustment marks on STATES and the shield are of mint origin, and do not affect the technical grade.
