1812 50C XF40 ANACS. O-110b, R.6. This coin is a specialist's dream. The O-110a is R.1, but this advanced die state is R.6. This die state was even missing from Jules Reiver's comprehensive collection of varieties and die states. The die crack in Liberty's drapery is faint but present. Lapping is evident on the obverse but not as pronounced as on the reverse, where significant portions of the design elements on the lower half of the coin are missing. Stephen Herrman has only recorded 12 auction appearances of this variety from 1993 to 2003. The finest example he has a record of in his Autumn 2006 edition is a VF25/25 from Sheridan Downey's Mail Bid Sale in July 1993. The surfaces of this piece are light gray overall with tan accents over the highpoints of the obverse. The only identifying mark we see is a small planchet void on Liberty's cap directly above the Y in LIBERTY.
From The Reginald Byron Mason Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
