1812 50C MS66 PCGS. O-110, R.1. Easily attributed by the die scratch below the end of the bust on the obverse, and on the reverse by the extensions into the right wing from crossbar 2 from the top and 3 from the bottom. This is an early die state that lacks the die crack below UNITED STAT on the reverse, and the milling is complete on both sides. This magnificent piece is the finest known example of the variety with the Condition Census listed in Overton as (65, 64, 63, 63, 62). Almost fully struck throughout, the only areas of weakness are on the date and the upper reverse, the coin obviously having been struck from misaligned dies. The other peripheral devices are impressively brought up and, as mentioned above, the milling is complete on each side. Almost brilliant, the obverse and reverse both show just a hint of light golden-brown patina around the margins, otherwise the coin is brilliant. There are no mentionable or even noticeable abrasions on either side of this magnificent early Bust Half, which is good news for the buyer but not such good news for anyone trying to trace this important coin's pedigree.
