1812<50C> MS66 PCGS. O-105a, R.1. A wispy die crack wanders through the 81 in the date to the curl, and a double denticle segment opposite the second A in AMERICA, these being the primary identifying factors to this die pairing. Die cracks on both sides match up exactly with later die state criteria in the Overton reference.
Nearly imperceptible pastel orange and ice-blue patina overlays lustrous surfaces. The design elements are sharply brought up, with no areas revealing weakness. Even the star centers and the clasp are well defined. The motifs are nicely, though not perfectly centered. Most of the dentilation shows, except for that on the lower left (facing) portion of the obverse, and the lower border on the reverse. The surfaces are impeccably preserved, with just a couple of minute and unobtrusive marks on Liberty's cheek. A truly spectacular early Bust half dollar. Population: 9 in 66, 1 finer (11/05).
