1812 50C MS65 NGC. O-109a, R.2. The late die states of this variety are identified by a nearly complete lack of border details on either side, as well as die roughness near the left wing tip. A few faint clashmarks can be seen in the usual locations on each side. Last June, we handled an MS66 example of the O-109a variety, but otherwise this is the finest example that has been offered for auction competition in recent years. It has excellent central details and outstanding eye appeal. The surfaces have dusky gray and gold color with peripheral blue toning, mostly on the obverse. Minimal hairlines or other imperfections are evident. This example is from the famous Pittman Collection, one of many exceptional Bust half dollars offered by David Akers from that collection.
Ex: Wayte Raymond (5/14/1946); John Jay Pittman (David Akers, 5/1998), lot 1461.
From The Westmoreland, Virginia Collection, Part Two.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
