<B>1812 $5 MS61 NGC.</B></I> Wide 5D, Breen-6466, BD-1, R.3. Final year for the Capped Bust to Left design, this date is typical of almost all the years produced of this design type. That is, there are numerous variants seen in the series, including overdates, Small and Large dates, Small and Large denominations, Small and Large 5s, and in this case Wide and Narrow 5 D. Uniformity of design elements was still a couple of decades away, and these early mint products provide collectors with a wider variety of coins to pursue than might at first appear to be the case. <BR> This piece has bright green-gold surfaces. Sharply defined on the obverse, there is a curious softness in the center of the reverse.
