1811 50C Small 8 MS66 NGC. O-108a, R.2. This appears to be a particularly late die state, as significant die clashing is visible on the reverse near the eagle's head, neck, and right (facing) wing. The coin is exceptionally lustrous beneath vivid original toning ranging from a golden tan in the centers to bands of bronze, burgundy, gold, lime green, and cobalt blue as one approaches the sides. The strike is decent, with a bit of weakness visible on the first three stars and left olive leaves. The few surface markings do not impede the overall visual effect. The Parsley reference lists the condition census for O-108 as (67,65,65,63,63) with no separate citation for O-108a. As an MS66 this coin would fit comfortably within this grouping. NGC (11/06) reports a census of 12 1811 halves in 66, 3 finer, encompassing all varieties, with none of these attributed to date as either O-108 or O-108a.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
