One of just two die marriages used in striking 1811 half eagles despite a comparatively sizeable mintage of over 99,000 pieces. The Small 5 variety, which can also be distinguished by a repunched C in AMERICA, is seen with only slightly greater frequency than its Tall 5 counterpart. This sharply struck representative intermixes a touch of reddish patina with the yellow-gold alloy. Scuffy abrasions on the obverse seen in both the fields and the portrait are the primary grade-limiting factor.
