1811 1/2 C XF45 PCGS. C-2, B-2, Low R.3. The Close Date variety. Other than the proof-only 1831, the 1811 is the key to the Classic Head half cent series. Generally found with problems, in low grades or both, this piece is a happy exception, and the high bidder will likely be just as happy with the coin. The obverse is medium-brown with deeper color evident near the date and the lower stars, while the reverse is a more uniform deep brown. A high degree of detail is evident under light wear; indeed, the reverse is especially attractive for the grade. A coin for the Half Cent specialist or the date collector intent on completing a high grade set.
