<B>1811 1/2 C AU55 NGC.</B></I> C-2, B-2, R.3. Among business strikes of the Classic Head design, the 1811 is one of two key-dates along with 1831. This latter issue is sometimes considered a proof-only date, although a small number of original non-proofs were coined. Twenty years earlier, two varieties of 1811 half cents were minted, now known as the Wide Date (C-1) and Close Date (C-2) varieties. These Close Date pieces are more plentiful, yet still quite scarce. This is a lovely specimen with dark brown color accented by hints of lilac and lighter tan color on the obverse. Like all known examples, the reverse appears to be a lower grade.
