Dimes 1811, 11 over 09. JR-1. NGC graded Mint State 65. <b>Only the one variety reported for this year, all from an overdated obverse. The remains of the 0 is visible on both sides of the second 1. The remains of the 9 is visible on the right side and to the left of the base of the last 1. Curl extends to the center of the space between the two 1's. Not especially rare in circulated grades, and even occasionally found uncirculated, the 1811/09 is decidedly rare in this outstanding condition! The population report for January 2002 bears this out, showing only 6 certified (two by PCGS and four NGC), with 3 higher. A remarkable coin indeed! NGC holder 566024-007. A low mintage year, only these second appearance of this design (1809-1837, but none struck in 1810).
