1810<50C> VF20--Reverse Improperly Cleaned--NCS. VF Details. O-106a, R.3. This interesting coin has flattened or damaged rims, leading Al C. Overton to designate a separate die state for the O-106 die marriage. This coin lacks any separated or distinguishable dentilation from star four clockwise through star 11, and correspondingly on the reverse (because of a die that is rotated about 40 degrees) clockwise from the F in OF to the U in UNITED. Overton speculates that something lodged in the die that moved between strikes, but he notes that others posit that the edge-lettering machinery caused the rim damage. The reverse is overly glossy from cleaning, but not harshly so, and both sides are medium-gray. Given the striking problems and wear, the eagle is pleasantly well detailed. Envelope Included.
