1810<50C> AU58 NGC. O-101, R.1. The sharp star details and dentilation, combined with extensive die cracks on all known specimens and this variety's status as an R.1 common coin lead to the inevitable conclusion that this die was cracked from the instant it was put into service, and that it was used to produce a considerable portion of the estimated mintage of 1,276,276 coins. Two die cracks lead from star one, one to the rim, a second to the drapery on one side and through stars two through seven and into Liberty's cap on the other. A third crack leads from the first rightward through all digits of the date. Several stars have raised, dash-like lumps near them. The present lightly toned example is lustrous and boldly struck, with silver-gray centers and blue-orange peripheral highlights. The reverse die is rotated about 70 degrees clockwise. The surfaces are a bit porous, but this lovely and intriguing coin shows just a hint of rub. Envelope Included.
