1809 C-6 R1 VG8
1809 C-6 R1 VG8. Obverse Brockage. Sharpness near F12 but there are a half dozen sharp rim nicks and fine scratches on both sides. Glossy chocolate brown and steel. Decent eye appeal in spite of the obvious marks, the rim nicks the more significant ones. This is a full obverse brockage, struck between the obverse die and the obverse of a previously struck piece that failed to eject from the coining chamber. The normally struck obverse is slightly off center to K-1. The incuse brockage side is also slightly off center in the same direction and it is rotated about 20 degrees relative to the normal side. Full brockage strikes such as this are far rarer than double struck or off-center strikes. Another great mint error in this extensive collection.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.

Provenance: Ex David Sanderson (bourse dealer in New Haven, CT) 11/20/1976.
