1809 C-5 R1 Repunched 9 PCGS graded MS62 Brown
1809 C-5 R1 Repunched 9. PCGS graded MS-62 Brown. A lustrous mint state example, but it has an obvious low spot on the cheek (caused by debris on the die), plus shallow low spots around the C in CENT. Even though these defects are mint-caused, the one on the cheek does affect the eye appeal. Lustrous bluish steel and olive with hints of very faded mint color on the reverse. E-MDS, Manley state 1.0. The repunching on the 9 is bold and the lump under the second A in AMERICA is strong. This is the Manley plate coin for the die variety (the large photos). Our grade is AU55. The attribution and Carvin Goodridge provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 2 in 65BN, 1 in 64BN (#35233).
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.

Provenance: Ex Hoke S. Greene Sale, Bowers & Merena 6/10/1985:447.
