1809<1/2 C> Recut 0 (Circle). C-4, B-1, R.2. Die State 1. AU58 NGC. XF45 EAC. Recut 0 (inner circle); Leaf point close to O. Through many editions of the Guide Book including the 2003 edition, this was listed as the "Circle inside 0" variety, an apt description. The last three editions of that reference have recorded a new name, the "Small o inside 0" variety. May we suggest that this variety should simply be called 1809 Recut 0, but perhaps that is not descriptive enough. This is an early die state with clearly recut stars 3, 6, and 10, and with a broad rim over STATES. It would be quite easy to call this example fully Mint State, although there is just the faintest trace of wear. The surfaces have lovely medium brown color with lighter golden brown clinging to the very edges of the devices on both sides. Several low areas on both sides, and especially visible at the lower left obverse, were apparently caused by grease or some similar foreign matter on the dies. A similar effect, although less prominent, can be seen on the Manley plate coin.
Ex: Clinton Hollins (11/4/1976); Bob Yuell (2/22/1999). Envelope Included.
