1808 C-3 R1 G5
1808 C-3 R1 G5. Flipover Double Strike with 2 Dates. A couple points sharper where the designs were properly impressed but covered with extremely fine granularity in the fields and protected areas. No verdigris or contact marks. Rather glossy dark chocolate brown. LDS, Manley state 5.0, with the reverse rotated 45 degrees CW. Double struck and flipped over between the strikes. One of the strikes was centered on the planchet and the other was about 25% off center to K-3. The reverse clearly shows the portrait and most of the date from an off-center strike in addition to a centered reverse. The obverse, however, shows only the centered obverse plus an impressed arc about 25% off center left of the lowest curl where it was pressed into a blank planchet. This would suggest the centered strike came first. Another dramatic mint error in this extensive collection.
Estimated Value $250-UP.
