1808<50C> XF40--Corrosion Spots--NCS. XF Details. O-109, R.3. This scarcer Overton variety among the 1808 coins is distinguished from the O-108, with which it shares a common reverse, by serrations in the bottom of L in LIBERTY, by a normal 1 in the date, and by the presence of a large, high hair curl, nearly touching the headband, that extends well beneath the upright of the R. The O-108 lacks the serrations, is missing the left base of the 1, and has a small, lower hair curl, farther away from the headband, that terminates at the right (facing) side of the upright. See The Ultimate Guide To Attributing Bust Half Dollars by Glenn R. Peterson, M.D., for excellent photos that illustrate some of these differences. After conservation this coin shows a star-sized corrosion spot remaining near Liberty's bustline, and some stray spotting in the 5 of 50 C. Otherwise the coin shows moderate light rub and field chatter over pleasing, basically untoned surfaces.
Ex: J.J. Teaparty (8/2/1985). Envelope Included.
