<B>1808 $5 MS63 NGC.</B></I> Breen-6456, BD-3, R.4. This is the Close 5D variant, determinable not only between the distance between the 5 and D in the denomination, but also by the placement of the I in PLURIBUS directly below the upright of the E in STATES. This is one of the more available early Half Eagles, and as such a perfect choice for a high grade type set. A good deal of luster remains after this coin's nearly two centuries of existence, and the pale green-gold surfaces are visited by a mere handful of post-striking surface abrasions.
