The Normal Date varieties from this year were produced from a single obverse die while the reverse is not only distinguished by the distance between 5 and D in the denomination, but also by the alignment of I of PLURIBUS on the scroll in relation to E of STATES above. The BD-3 variety (offered here) has the I centered below the upright of E, while BD-4 (or Wide 5D) has the I centered below the space between T and E. This reddish-tinged example is sharply struck with minimally abraded surfaces.
